Anybody else feel the same or is it just me?

I also really don't like having my photo taken.

Miss Smoo on the other hand loves having hers taken, and takes a great photo TBH.

We don't know where she gets it from though as Mrs Smoo is like me, when a camera appears it's a case of

What are the six C's of nursing?

And yes, they should have asked you if they could take your photo.

I don't like having my photo taken, either at work or socially. I'm no more than averagely ugly, it's just something I don't like; nor do I presume to take photos of other people.

But writing to the RCN? That comes from someone who is already qualified and IIRC self-employed, so please don't do anything so silly. The last thing you want is to be remembered as 'that stroppy student nurse', especially over something so trivial. If it does appear somewhere where it attracts unwanted attention, fine, complain then.

I never said I was writing to anyone, let alone the RCN. I spoke to the ward sister and asked her to ask if they would not use any photos of me.

I'm often not keen and tense up - as others have said I prefer being behind the camera instead. However my daughter managed to take a lovely relaxed one of me recently. I just wish I would look that way normally!

My daughter loves the camera too and always looks great, she definately didn't get that from me.

I can understand your feeling hacked off about it, but I think it's just one of those unfortunate things rather than anything sinister or unethical. They didn't know. And most people are pretty unphased about having their photo taken at that kind of a do. The telling thing will be the way they react now you've made your feelings clear. Hopefully they'll respect them, and can the photo.

The original poster got ambushed. She was summoned for something that was not really part of her professional duties or training, and without being told in advance that photography was planned. Once there, she was put in a situation where it was extremely difficult for her to say 'No'.
