I struggle to enjoy travelling overseas since I am always ill with bad headaches for three days after flying, both going there and coming back again, worse if it's somewhere hot and sunny..
Can that give migraines at all? I have one once in a blue moon but got a really bad one after spending two weeks in a heatwave then flying home. I didn't really think there was a connection at the time because migraines seem to hit quite randomly!

I would imagine this is possible sazzaa due to cabin pressure & inner ear problems (possibly imbalance) caused by it.

I suffer quite badly with this & have had ear bleeds before when flying.

It does tend to affect me (headaches included) for 2 > 3 days after each flight.

@ColinJ posted a link for earplanes I think (thanks Col) yet to look em up but for any other sufferers might be worth a punt.

I must admit that apart from a couple of school trips, a fortnight with teh RAF in Germany, and a few weeks in Gibraltar I could not be bothered, and didn't even own a passport

Then two years ago I got the opportunity to visit a nuclear reactor and production lines for the drugs that we use, so a passport was sought

Then this year went to Iceland and loved the place.TRouble is now whether to go back next winter to see the Northern Lights again, a summer trip to see the country with out white covering, (or both)

The worst thing about travelling overseas is coming back home and being subjected to our poor public transport, wishing there was a railway station at the airport instead of being ripped off by the taxi driver.

I don't know what airport you usually fly into, but both Heathrow and Gatwick are on the rail lines.

You are supposed to be able to take them out after a period of time to allow pressure inside the ears and sinuses to slowly change, but I never tried that. I was so relieved not to suffer the pain, that I did not want to risk it.

The Earplanes have small ceramic inserts which are very slightly porous to allow air molecules to leak slowly in or out, but avoid the sudden pressure changes which we find impossible to cope with.

The positives: I have had no more pain! (On about 10 flights since I started using them.) Noise levels on the flight are very significantly muted.

The negatives: It is hard to have a conversation without shouting. If you want to use headphones, you would have to use the over the ear type and turn them up. Sleep or read instead?

I'm fine with flying but after that holiday I felt like my head was going to implode the next day. Meds knocked me out, thankfully. Might look into earplanes...

Was your holiday amazing? (Not sure if I've already asked you!) I've just bought hiking boots for my trip. Super excited and it feels like it's ages away...

Its just my brother is the most unimaginative and fussy sod going (fussy eater, fussy dresser, fuss fuss fuss moan moan moan pout pout pout!! )(I doubt he's even been on holiday or even been out of Scotland in years) so growing up with that, it tends to colour one's attitude (he's highly intelligent, but can be far TOO logical for his own good at times. To be fair, he isn't as bad as he once was as far as I can tell, but still....).

Yes, I do appreciate the irony of my words about being intolerant...... I apologise for going off on one, but in this day and age, it does, nonetheless befuddle me.

For the record, I have travelled extensively throughout the UK, been to Muckle Flugga and Lizard Point, Ardnamurchan Point to Lowestoft, Wales, Northern Ireland.... Admittedly I may never have been to Blackpool in my life, but sometimes, just sometimes, somewhere completely new can be like a much needed refreshment, a drench of cold water on a hot day, the wonderfully earthy smell and feeling of the air pressure dropping before a storm, particularly accompanied by the electrical smell just before a thunderstorm.... I just need to go somewhere new to stop the rot!!
Fair points all. I can see how it might have coloured your opinion. Thanks for explaining.

Awful weather, snow, clouds, rain, sleet and wind, which caused some problems with photography

Having said that though the people are friendly, and the scenery stunning

We walked on the morraine of a glacier, saw a rare eagle, went behind a waterfall, played with horses and walked down the edge of a tectonic plate..... and of course the Blue Lagoon

The hotels were miles from anywhere, and all the better for it.

Then one evenng having waited until about 12:30 (in the bar) and going to bed, the skies cleared, and the re was the Aurora in stunning clarity and colour. The whole trip would have been worth it for that experience only

One health warning though.....

Going out in Reykjavik on a Saturday night and joining up with a group of locals is not good, as you will be returned to your hotel just in time for breakfast, while they carry on!

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM

This all sounds amazing to me! I'm in Reykjavik when gay pride is on so I'm expecting not to sleep for those few days!
