Well I think you might be able to eat them as is, but some milk would add creaminess. Might be worth experimenting - I don't know for sure it works, but I'm sure I've read it.

I think people have used a similar idea to cook rice or pasta for supper while on tour - bung it in the thermos in the morning, have it cooked for dinner.

Cool - I might try this! I usually just have oats from the packet but leaving them to stew in a thermos might be an interesting idea, cheers!

I have the Oat so Simple sachets on a daily basis  Golden Syrup / Apple & Blueberry / even Sweet cinnamon, once in a while. Cheap, convenient and not too bad for you... what's not to like?

BTW - I make mine with skimmed milk, not water. Fill up the empty sachet to just under the line (filling to the line will make it ever so slightly too runny, imho).

Top tip: slice 'n' sling a banana into the mix, for an added bit of punch!

Probably a cheap way to have instant porridge with nothing more than a kettle to hand is to use the supermarket instant porridge stuff, which you're supposed to heat milk to mix with, but to mix a portion with a spoonful of dried milk powder, and bung in a jar or tupperware. Then add boiling water when required. (I assume that the instant packets to which you add just water are made in this sort of way - dried milk mixed in?)

 Mines a pint, Anthony - of your finest cognac please. 27gms per sachet. About 35-36 helpings plus all that waste paper etc to a Kg. 1Kg of Porridge = £1.59 exactly...(I know this) = Expensive.

Ah, well... I was basing it on a rough estimate of 25p per brekkie (not inc. any banana costs). Seems more than reasonable
Teef - I will buy you a pint at Whitstable... I hear sparkling water, with a dash of lime, is all the rage these days

Yer - roight.
I think a lorra lorra people would be 'all the rage' if you started proffering those 0% appeasements, my friend. You on a diet means your wallet is getting fat..."use it or lose it" as they say in rugby. AND. Stop buying bicycles, it's bad for my health!

Yep, saw this in Morrisons yesterday, bought a box (400g I think) for £1.49. Just add boiling water or milk and you're sorted.

I've recently been trying a few of these things and I found the Oat burst and Stoats ones to be the best, both were 50p which was half the price of the Oat so simple MULTI-GRAIN one, which tasted disgusting.
Asda's own brand one wasnt much better and had a plasticky taste to it.

Seems like in general they contain 70% oats and 30% dried skimmed milk, with a little brown sugar to sweeten, I havent done the maths but I bet if you bought in bulk and made your own you could get the price down to something silly like 5p per pot!

Stoats BARS are good, too, and you can't get much more instant than that. Not the cheapest option, but at least they're edible, unlike some of the competition.
