……..well: Maybe in Spring ? Autumn ?

I’ve got other Summer hobbies. And there’s so many ways to enjoy the great outdoors. Plus I’d rather be a shade too cold - as opposed to struggling with the heat at all.

I’m convinced I have more fun / feel more comfortable on cooler, crisp, stick a couple of extra layers on days; certainly compared to Mid Sumner. *Silly cold / snow / heavy rain..……you can shove that too 🤣

But I think April / May and Sept to October are really my cycling sweet-spots.

Anyone remotely with me on this………

I love winter riding. The best weather to hone your skills.

I like riding all year round, the only conditions I really hate and won't go out in is very heavy rain (ice of course, but I don't count that as potential for a ride anyway!). I love it in winter on a crisp dry day when the sun is setting and the roads are empty. There is something about the calm on days like that which is about as close to Zen as I get 😂

Big difference between spring / autumn and winter. I'm with you that the two "intermediate" seasons are better on account of the cooler temps, although I do like the long days and generally happy ambience of summer.

As a rule winter can do one, although I do enjoy the odd ride if conditions are right. Now I'm in the flat living a very bike / outside-centric lifestyle I'm viewing the coming winter with a mixture of trepidation and intrigue..

Good morning,

For me it is the wind, summer seems to come with a lot more wind.

I don't mind the heat, even those two 40 deg C days we had a few years back, which were fortunately windless.

It's that horrible head wind that changes direction so is a headwind in both the morning and the evening.

A lot of my rides and commutes, where you can't tweak the route much, are through the countryside where there is little shelter, plenty of horse manure and suicidal squirals, small birds and grouse, but no shelter from the wind.

Bye

Headwinds suck but at least if it's hot it's OK. In the winter into a cold headwind is pure purgatory.

Absolutely .. I dislike riding here in July and August because of the heat (and the holidaymakers). Bring on September!

My most enjoyable ride this year (so far) was 23 January. Headed south against the wind for a few hours then returned in the dark and the rain with a gusty SW wind blowing me back to the van. No-one about and the only sound (apart from the whoosh of the wind) was an owl.

A 92km ride in just over 6 hours .. I could have continued (the bike was up for it) but hunger forced me to stop.

Summer is to be endured .. but autumn and winter will be relished.
