Anyone ever tried 'shielding' speakers?

I thought my new Missions were magnetically shielded - turns out I was wrong, and they're causin a bit of purpling at the bottom corner of my old telly. I wondered (after doing a fair bit of googling) if I might be able to prevent the interference by sticking a bit of mild steel sheeting in the way - has anyone ever tried this? Did it work?

It will be something of a ball ache I think. I found this after a bit of goggling. http://www.clothedandy.com/Voight Pipes/shielding.html
Can you not get them further away form the telly?

Thanks. I've got them as far as possible, but there's still some purple. Thanks for the link - it does look a bit of a faff, but not over-daunting. I've just ordered a sheet of 3mm mild steel from ebay - gotta be worth a pop for £5.50!

once you've "de-gaussed" the screen - on some tv's there may be a button on the back, you should be fine - but don't then move the speakers else it'll be wrong again ! If it's a proper TV I doubt it's cost effective to get a bloke out to do it.

Another options is to carefully use a small magnet to "paint" the screen until any colour casts have gone. But you'll need patience and perseverance. I was once "inspired" by an open university science programme to investigate bending of electron beams in a magnetic field. Unfortunately this left a very bad colour cast on my parents' telly. Took an hour or more of fiddling with a magnet to get it right again - just as my parents car come up the drive. Phew !

Point is, it does work - but as I said, you need to get it right for the positions the speakers are actually in.

So...if I understand rightly, my speaker has by now fatally damaged my telly, so even when I set up my mild steel screen, the purple will remain? Though I may be able to repair the 'permanent' damage by using a litttle magnet? Is that right? And if so, how does that actually work? (Needless to say, I'm loath to cause even *more* damage.)

Most CRT TVs have a degausing circuit built into the them, it's what makes the Tzzzzz sound when you first turn them on.

I take it you have turned it off and on ( a couple of times) ?

Next step is move the speakers away - to determine if it's "temporary" or not.

If not, then maget trick it is then ...

I shoudl also add, that to do the magnet trick effectively, speakers etc need to be where you want them to be, else it'll go wrong again as soon as you move em back

To de-gauss a tv, get s small magnet, and basically use it to "paint out" any colour casts. It'll take a while and needs patience. When you've "painted out" a bit, then carefully move it away from the TV, else you'll paint some more colours back in.

No guarantee mind, but it worked for me

Ok, the sheet steel arrived and, you'll never guess, made not a jot of difference.

So....Plan B....painting out. I got a fridge magnet and sort of hovered it over the purple area...which got bigger....took it away again, got smaller....I did this a few times but it didn't seem to be making any permanent difference. Should I be 'painting out' from behind the screen, or while touching the screen, or what? Should I be using a strong magnet? (Maybe a fridge magnet just isn't strong enough?) How can I tell if I'm getting it right/moving in the right direction? Any tips much appreciated.
