I have a 100% success rate on wet audaxes. I can’t say the same for hot ones.
Almost 10yrs to answer, that has to be a record!

Rain is a recipe for trouble unless I'm very careful. It increases my tendency to ride too fast, and reduces my inclination to stop and eat/rest, so I'm more likely to bust a gut. It also increases my risk of getting too cold, because I'm avoiding getting soaked whilst taking my waterproof off to put warmer clothing on underneath it.

When I started racing back in the day time trialists used to claim that rain meant there was more oxygen in the air and provided it wasn't cold or heavy enough to cause a hazard it improved performance.
I used to hear this as well. And quite often when raining or overcast, and with a gentle wind in the right direction, it was a 'fast night'- although I suspect this was due to lower air pressure.

Age doesn't make your point any less valuable.
