Came across Thisisnotforcharity the other day, looks like he's fairly close to beating the world cycle tour record thingy.
I like his style, (clearly an ale drinker since he mentions CAMRA).
The 'Follow' page where you get a 15 minute GPS update of his progress is cool.
I reckon we should put (shove) forward a cyclechat champion for this record.
BTFB?

It's an awesome achievement but i reckon i would get frustrated having to rush through the whole time, not being able to see the countries etc
The bloke who recently broke the record must be pretty annoyed though

The guy's a tw$t. He bangs on about society in his manifesto and then carefully avoids any contribution to society he could make by making this a not for charity ride. Such high principles that he can't even overcome them to potentially help others but can manage to get sponsorship for himself. What a great shame a complete tw$t is gonna hold the record. The other appropriate word for him is toss3r. Can you tell I'm not a fan.

His manifesto (which I hadn't bothered reading) is a bit of bollix although funny in a 'I don't think I can save the world but it's possible!). The sort of thing an idealistic 16 year old might come out with.

Yes, I remember when his site was first posted here several months ago the overall consensus was 'cock juggler' or something like that anyway B)

The trouble with a record for cycling round the world is that in order to have the best chance of beating the existing record a rider is likely to seek the least challenging route - so not the most scenic, nor the most interesting. This seems to me to be the antithesis of cycle touring, and a rather pointless undertaking.

Unless you're going to write a book, make a film or save the planet which is their motivation.
Not for me though, I agree. I read Mark Beaumont's book recently and it seemed like a chore to be endured and there are many points where he wishes he could stop and look.

Possibly: Don't be so damned reasonable, it's quite knocked the top off my glowering mood.

My apologies, Crackle, I like a good old whinge myself!

This bit is priceless though, definitely Upper IVth form material

I suggest, finally, that society should cycle. I do not know if I can make a difference, I doubt that I alone can stop The Downfall, but I can at least retrieve the Bicycle from it. Too much ugliness is committed in this world from behind masks of cunning marketing or outright deceit. For me the Bicycle is a thing too beautiful to meet such a fate, and it is not for charity that I seek its rescue

He wants to make a living as a writer I see.

After trying to read the first paragraph of his 'manifesto', I think he ought to stick to couriering.
