You can't. You could never buy a place, ballot or raise money for charity only. Charity places all gone ages ago too

You can do the freecycle on Saturday and watch the pros on Saturday and Sunday and lend your support to the riders by cheering them on

You might possibly still be able to volunteer as a Marshall too

The ballot for next year will open in the next week or two I think, but you need to apply and then wait

Sports Tours International sell places for this event although they do sell out early. Maybe next time?

If it's on public roads can't you just, errrr, ride the route with everyone else?
Public roads officially closed for an event. I'd imagine you'd have a bit more luck than the people I saw arguing with marshalls to let their Merc on to the route, but maybe not much more.

There were some bikes I saw in 2014 that couldn't have been sanctioned riders (a large trike comes to mind) but I've no idea how far they got and if anyone tried to remove them. I'd imagine if you did get caught riding it you'd go on a special list that means you'd never get in again. But I could be being overly paranoid.

Also, it really isn't the done thing.

I'm not convinced anyone would be that bothered, unless you draw attention to yourself by flouting safety rules, for example by not wearing a helmet if wearing a helmet is a condition of participation.

Anyway, it will never be an issue for me. I hate mass events, and avoid riding routes if I know hundreds or even thousands of people will be driving their cars with bike racks, and generally clagging the place up.

The roads are closed, there won't be any cars

Unless you mean the cars that will be following the pros doing the course in the afternoon

No, just the problems that occur when large numbers of people try to drive to an event, such as parking and congestion. Maybe this ride doesn't suffer from such problems, after all, London does have better rail network than most ride start/finish points.

Yes but how much? 10x the normal entry fee? More
I can't abide touting and profiteering
My apologies if they charge face value plus a fiver for their troubles which goes to charity ;)
