Anyone got a spare London 100 number

Exactly. Person A, the registered individual, picks up the pack and passes it to person B who does the ride. There are no further checks after you have collected your rider documents.
I would assume they are trying to stop the transfer of people who now can't make it who therefore can't do the above.

So one of the first times colleagues asked me for money was for the London marathon, where if they hit the fundraising target, they got entry, airfare and accommodation to the Boston Marathon. The fundraising target was not that big, so basically donors were paying for their next holiday, with the left over pounds going to charity.

On principle, I never sponsor that sort of event: "please donate, 80% pays for my holiday and 20% goes to the company organising it, who give a bit to charity"

Talking about charities is a bit off topic, but where does the money come from to pay for their London based headquarters and lavish venues they hire for events etc. comes from. Hmm, they money that participants are raising for them!

Big charities (those mostly with the big HQs in London) get lots of money from corporate sponsors (all sorts of national and multi nationals) both as part of CSR obligations that shareholders and employees expect as well as supporting specific projects

I'm not a fan, but I don't know how much it's a case of money makes money for them. I'm sure a charity run out of a shed in Ilford would appear less viable to a city donator than one with a lavish office in W1C.

It would need to be a big shed for some of the large charities, like Cancer Research UK, MacMillan, Save the Children, Oxfam, UNICEF etc (actually they probably have their shiny HQ in Geneva)

In London, charities are more likely in places like Vauxhall, Clerkenwell etc where office space is cheaper, few are in the Square Mile (for work I've recently done an audit of patient advocacy groups for lots of diseases). Also assume tax scenarios etc mean they don't pay as much for their space

After the ride on Sunday, the charity I am raising money for has got their shindig at the London Hilton on Park Lane. That won't come cheap but then they have got over 600 people riding for them I think.

Not complaining though as it will give me somewhere to go while I wait to watch the pro's finish

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Pop over to S, C & P and post your thesis. You might find that one or two people know enough about charity finance to point out the facts for you.

As your obviously hinting that I am wrong you must know why. So instead of being sarcastic, why don't you educate us?

Because this is neither the forum nor the thread. As I say, I'm happy to debate the issue in the right place.

In that case, address everyone talking about charities then because if you took the time to look, I didn't initially bring them up.

Maybe you should be telling PK99 and jefmcg or vickster who initially started talking about charities to post their Thetis and find the facts.
