Why aren't the places transferable?
To prevent touts getting 100's of dummy places and selling on at silly prices
Why aren't the places transferable?
Yes but how much? 10x the normal entry fee? More
I can't abide touting and profiteering
My apologies if they charge face value plus a fiver for their troubles which goes to charity![]()
Yes but I couldn't see a price

Not an obscene profit. Room is still available for those two nights for £300. They would pay less, but presumably paid more for the entry than ballot winners. Still, probably 50% or so.2 nights from 1st until 3rd of August:
£229 per person, based on 2 people sharing a twin or double room. Single room supplement is £150 (Based on sole occupancy of a double room).
I know lots of people do this, but I haven't asked people for sponsorship since I did a read-a-thon when I was about 10. I couldn't imagine doing it now. So I would have to pay out of pocket if I wanted a charity place. I'm sure there are others like me.Most charities charge the usual rate. Yes you have to raise money but that should be through sponsorship...and charity places are open to UK residents...and the money goes to charity not a private travel agency

Though I also am disdainful of people coming around asking me to subsidise a fun thing they really want to do, with a portion of the money going to a charity neither they nor I have any connection to. "Sponsored parachute jump" baffles me.
Yep, I am not a nice person.
As far as I know. They are non transferable. @vickster

YOU MUST BRING PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION WITH YOU TO COLLECT YOUR RIDER DOCUMENTS.
They only sell them as part of a package that includes hotel so not so good for those that don't need the latter.Yes but how much? 10x the normal entry fee? More

There are exceptions, of course. You're obviously one.I'm riding for the local Hospice I am a volunteer driver for - 100% of funds raised goes direct to the hospice. No shame about asking folks to support that cause.

I did once sponsor a colleague I didn't know, whose premature baby had died and he swam across a lake in Switzerland to raise money for the hospital that had cared for her.
The sponsorship thing was not common in Australia , when I moved here. So one of the first times colleagues asked me for money was for the London marathon, where if they hit the fundraising target, they got entry, airfare and accommodation to the Boston Marathon. The fundraising target was not that big, so basically donors were paying for their next holiday, with the left over pounds going to charity.
Exactly. Person A, the registered individual, picks up the pack and passes it to person B who does the ride. There are no further checks after you have collected your rider documents.
