I have less than one kindle but I have the software on this pc.

The trouble with ereaders (now) is the pictures aren't great, are they? Technical books don't transfer so well.

The basic Kindle is $79 in the US and £89 in the UK, so I bet the Kindle Fire will be about £199 in the UK.

Better off getting an iPad, it's more money and more shiny!

The beauty of the kindle is the form factor and the weight, I can hold it for hours with 1 hand because it weighs so little and when travelling takes up amost no space at all. Then there is the battery life that lasts for around 3 - 4 weeks between charges rather than a few hours.

I have a tablet and much prefer the kindle.

I haven't got a kindle but the best use of my headlight is to read by in bed as on it's lowest setting it illuminates the book perfectly without any light spillage keeping Mrs A_T awake- better than one of those clip-on lights. Possibly the light reflecting from a kindle screen might be annoying.

Disagree strongly. Pdfs of all kinds of things (I read a lot) from theoretical physics papers to computer magazines, you name it render fine on kindle (and several other e-readers). My personal view of how the sony e-reader and kindle handles them is that it would work a lot better than it does if the screen was approximately 1 inch larger and you select landscape mode.

I have a kindle because it enables me to have thousands of books and not have an issue with storage it is nothing to do with what it looks like.
I'm sticking with the Etch-A-Sketch!

I'm sticking with my assertion.

It costs more to buy a book on Kindle than in paper form.

Besides we all know 3bm is a fashion victim

Only if you buy a book that is published by one of the publishers that are price fixing and they tend to price the book just over whatever the cheapest paper version is, but this is now being investigated as a form of illegal price fixing.

I buy lots of books that are not even published in paper form and they range from 69p to about £5.

I used to have a low opinion of kindles and such like until I actually tried one now I know different.

I know im a luddite, dinosaur, old fart etc etc but if i lose a book its only a couple of quid down the drain as i get most of mine from abe books online, can't see anyone wanting to go to great lengths to thieve my book (never happened so far) but i would be worried about this happening to a kindle?. Also would be worried about sun, suntan lotion, sand and sangria effecting it on my jollies.

Well thats fair enough, but I have to say I am no more worried about my kindle than I am about my Mobile Phone, my bike or any other of the silly priced items that I carry around and the kindle is probably the least expensive of all of them.

Well they wouldnt be stealing your books just the reader the books are in your library in the cloud.

I have two ageing Sony readers, one is smaller and fits in a pocket, but the other is and original and bigger so is used at home. I use Calibre and keep track of books independently on the readers using a Mac

From the way I understand Kindle.....

Kindle are keen to get the system out on smart phones , Ipads, Tablets etc, and hence syncs with the cloud. Any machine on that account can sync with that cloud.

If you have a separate account that cannot happen.

There is not as far as I am aware a limit on how many machines can link to a particular account
