There is a limit at the moment for a maximun of six Kindles (or Kindle compatible devices, such as Kindle for iPhone) registered to your Amazon account, however the publisher can reduce this limit and if the limit is less than six kindles for a specific title, you'll see the message "Simultaneous Device usage: Up to X simultaneous devices, per publisher limits" on the detail page.

My wife is a kindle-holic - since she got it last Feb' she has read 81 books (too much time on her hands I say).

She loves it, even when she wakes up in the middle of the night with her hot flushes she just gets stuck into her book.

The best thing is the 'free sample' facility, using this has really broadened the subject matter that she reads. She also likes the fact that if she likes a book it can be hers in about 4 seconds flat.

"Well they wouldnt be stealing your books just the reader the books are in your library in the cloud." from phil

Am i being unintentionally thick? If your kindle was stolen then you still have to replace the kindle at £89 regardless of whether your books are kept floating around in the ether??

The shiny screen on the iPad makes reading in bright light difficult; the e-Ink screen on the Kindle is like paper and you don't get reflections or the text being washed-out....

I can second this. My ipad is awful for reading on, the reflections are terrible, whihc seems fine when browsing, but bad for relaxed reading. I had a kimdle a month or so ago and it's been a revalation, so light, easy on the eyes, and great to hold amd read with. I've been reading on a device for years (phone, ipod touch, pocket pc, palm pc) and the kindle is by far and away the best, and easiest on the eyes.

Hmm ... I fancied reading on the train today on my way back from my New Year family visits so I bought a copy of The Social Animal at the station. It was £8.99 in paperback, and would still have been £7.50 from Amazon, but it is available for £1.99 for the Kindle!

It is a very chunky 550 page paperback (including references). Now, the man in front of me was reading a book on one of the new keyboard-less £89 Kindles so I was able clearly to see the difference in size between it and my large paperback. I could also see how clear the text was on his Kindle, and how quick the electronic page change was. I was impressed.

I know that some books are not much cheaper for the Kindle (or sometimes even cost more than the paper editions!), but I reckon that it wouldn't take more than a couple of years to save that £89 by buying bargain Kindle books. I think I'll buy one once I've caught up on my backlog of paper books.

They do have sales three/four times a year with books 99p-£1.99. At odd other times prices fluctuate to shuffle things up their sale rankings. Other ebooks are the same.

Like they are at the moment link

I think some of the top sellers rankings are dependent on the authors wishes for pricing when not tied to a publishing house. Sure I've read somewhere Amazon encourage cheap ebooks by keeping their share of the sale price low for the self publishing authors.

Wasn't there a CC'er looking into publishing a book awhile back?

Yes, they like to keep books within a certain price range. Although I don't particularly have a problem with this in itself as it is exactly the sort of price range needed to make ebooks take off. Some small writers are very pleased at the deal and say they can make good money out of it.
