I think anyone who speaks Spanish will be able to help you. Portuguese looks similar to Spanish (in the roots of words) but sounds completely different.

I think the man lost his life in trying to save others.

But I will need to look up abnegadamente and arrebatou, which I can do later this evening. (I do not touch web-translators with someone else's barge pole).
