Tubs - short for tubular tyres. They are tyres shaped like doughnuts with tubes permanently enclosed. They need to be attached to special-shaped rims with glue or special sticky tape. The advantages of them are that they can be very comfortable, roll well, and don't come off as easily in the case of a sudden puncture.

The disadvantages are that they can be more expensive and a nuisance to replace, especially if you get a puncture.

They used to be way better than conventional 'clincher' tyres and separate inner tubes but clinchers have improved to the point now that many people don't bother with tubs any more. I have never used them, and probably never will. A decent pair of clincher tyres with good quality inner tubes will do me.
