Anyone else find the prospect of these, and other smartwatches concerning?
After reading this I can't help but wondering when the first smartwatch aided incident will happen. Does present legislation covering mobiles and driving need updating or will it have to wait until the first celebrity prosecution and 'Mr. Loophole' being wheeled out to get them off.

I've been watching apples falling from my downstairs neighbours' tree for months now. They just leave them to rot amongst the dog poo.

But yes, a lot of people will die on the roads before it becomes an issue. Texting and phoning on the road, however, are existing killers and we haven't begun to enforce legislation about that yet.

Good point!

I hadn't thought of that. It would be rather hard to spot somebody driving along staring at a smartwatch. Perhaps they should have something built into them to make them switch off if they are being worn by drivers. (It might be tricky to implement, but there must be a way of doing it.)

I think the apple watches would be fine for cycling and no more dangerous than clicking a setting on a garmin. A quick look and it's done.

That said, they will only be as dangerous as the user and there will always be the idiots who insist on playing with every feature when out of the road

I suspect it won't be that hard, that glazed looking downward expression or weird hand positions that already gives motorists away even when they try to hide the phone.

How would that stand up in court though? "He looked like he might have been staring at his watch" ...
In the same way that they currently use for phones. If you are driving you can't look at your watch for any significant time without turning your head and wrist, and normally you would look at the car's instead. And presumably they would be able to look at the history on it?

Me neither. I think there's actually a wider issue. Anything which draws your attention from the road should be included. Eating, drinking, definitely smoking, playing with your radio, flicking your cars stats to see exactly what mpg you're doing at some inane moment, etc.

All of these things equal looking at your watch, other brands are available.

Err..only connection in OP between the watch and the killer phone using driver was I happened to read one article after the other and my brain did the rest.
Though the real connection is as above, yet another distraction from driving and danger to other road users
