Naah just checked on Wiggle. I can get kit from there without needing to steal stuff.

But stealing cassettes?
Surely it would be easier to nick a bike?

That's the downside of things like QRs isn't it? The quicker you can get the wheels off a bike, the easier it is to rob parts. The owners of expensive bikes make the complete machine difficult to swipe with big D-locks, but if you've got a rack full of bikes fitted with high end transmission parts costing £100+ a pop, a pocketful of bits comes to a tidy amount. Plus there won't be any serial numbers on the bits to make them traceable when resold. All the time many riders insist on using anything better than a worthless beater with low end kit on it to commute on, then the criminal profit opportunity is there.

Not possible, all cyclists live on a higher moral plane than normal people. Stealing from each other is just not possible....

Must say I do find it rather unbelievable. Having being targeted by bike thieves for years the vast majority wouldn’t turn to thievery just to replace a spare part. If it is happening it’s more likely to be carried out by someone specialising in that kind of thing.

you used to see a suspiciously large number of second hand bike parts down brick lane market in east london. Always struck me as odd/suspicious but I assumed that if nicked they had been stripped off an entire bike that had been nicked.
