Are mobility cars worth considering if you only do around 2,750 miles a year?

I wouldnt buy anything from any fleet now I've seen how they penny pincher maintenance even if I were the only person that had driven it.

Motability no longer do a 3rd year service because thats when the come off the fleet, and people buy them thinking theyve got a full history. They no longer pay for sundries, so when they are serviced door locks, hinges, etcmdont get lubed. Ive already described about how they wouldn't replace the wipers and a 2 year old car with a year left on the lease, expecting Mrs D to either leave it with the dealer until it rained or else do the final year only driving it in good weather.

Maybe in the past I might have done, but in 2026 I wouldn't touch one with yours.

BTW Accy, well done beating them in tribunal. Im presuming the DWP didnt even bother turning up?

No, the DWP weren't there, but the independent panel after telling me of their decision said the DWP will most likely challenge their decision. My advisor who went with me said they probably won't challenge it, but the independent panel have to say that to me as it's just part of the procedure.

Just buy a little runaround like the one you already have.

Seriously Drago, what about this car?! I see little old biddies driving around town, to the shops and back etc in little old Japanese cars and think mmmm, maybe I should get one.🤔 As I said upthread, I'll be doing even less miles a year when I get my bus pass, which will probably mean about 1,500 miles a year behind a wheel, so why have a say 6 grand car parked up for most of the day?!. We know that Toyota Yaris's are the most break down free cars in the whole world, it looks quite tidy, it's not full of mind blowing hard to understand gadgets and it looks quite quirky.😉

Thats a good motor if its clean. The 1.0 litre 1KRFE engine isnt a ball of lightning, but it feels livelier than it is, sips petrol, and properly maintained is as tough as old boots.

Those early ones are starting to show signs of tinworm, so have a good crawl round it, but ifmit drives straight and has a half decent history go for it.

Edit - avoid. Dark warnings of underbody corrosion on the last two MOTs

Ah, many thanks, well spotted, regarding the corrosion!😉👍

Seeing that I now seem to be having minor bumps etc when driving, my dog messing up my car, I hoard too much stuff in my car etc the above would be perfect. No worries about putting dents in a 7 grand car when your car cost only £995, when you get a grand for your current car.🤔
If your having minor bumps, don't go on the motability scheme, they will penalise you financially when the car is returned damaged, they seem to be clamping down now on the scumbags that get a new car every 3 years, trash it, then go to another brands dealer & start again, when we purchased a Ford Galaxy years ago the salesman showed us a 3 year old Galaxy, top of the range Titanium X spec, it was metallic black, scraped & scratched down both sides with the rear bumper hanging off, that was, iirc £35,000 in new 2013!

I thought that if you looked after it they paid you a bonus when it went back, no penalty for general wear, tear and knocks ?

Yes, theres a good condition bonus, coupla hundred quid. Very minor knocks and scratches are considered fair wear and tear, but thats it. Anything bigger than a tiny door ding or a scratch more than 2 or 3 cm will have them bending you over and whipping your Y fronts down.
