What if a car has a plate that is too new for it's model?

DVLA doesn't allow that. Older is fine but not newer

Exactly. Which is why the police can use age related plates to detect dodgy vehicles.

Some people buy non-age related plates so they can keep their cars for longer.

Scrotes aren't that thick, they usually find an identical vehicle and copy the reg, or steal foreign plates so the police have no clue what it's registered to, usually Eastern European cars
Again ANPR picks up dodgy motors, both roadside cameras & those on top of Police vehicles

You obviously know better than the Police then.

Avoid Chain Bar then, there's 12 ANPR cameras in the junction with another 4 at Hartshead and a further six on J25.

Mate of mine was a Special and was sent out as passenger in a traffic car round Bradford, the ANPR pinged that often it was impossible to pull every dodgy car, apparently it sounded like a pinball machine, so those cameras are very well placed imho

The problem with fixed ANPR is that those who drive dodgy cars are unlikely to have them registered to their home address so tracking down the driver (or car) is likely to be a tad difficult.
