Otherwise known, when roads started to be numbered, as the A1

This is one of my pet subjects, in particular, the 'coaching era', & the motoring years, up to the creation of bypasses
By that, I mean when it went through villages & towns, such as (in Yorkshire), Bawtry/Wentbridge/Darrington/FerryBridge/Micklefield/Aberford/Wetherby

This site used to be quite interesting, I thought it had disappeared completely, but has been 'archived'

The Frank Goddard & Chris Cooper books are on my shelves, as is this

I asked AI to show the 'real' me.

Must have passed this many times taking my kids to school there. Never spotted it.

Obviously he doesn't ride on it, so it must be pretty noisy along side of it!
It doesn’t seem so long, but it must have been in the early 90s, that l rode down the A1, from the junction with the A59, back down to HookMoor
I don’t remember being worried by traffic, even at Bramham Cross-Roads (unless l came off there, & went down the old ‘GNR’ through Aberford?

I remember when I first got in to cycling and lived in Leeds I would cycle across to Hull to see my mate. I used to cycle down a bit of the A1 East of Garforth so as to get to Selby. Which must have been crazy.

I remember that where you go straight across the roundabout into Wetherby, having left the A1, and travelled along Boston Road, there was one of the old black and white signs, square, with reflectors around the edge, I can't recall the exact wording but it was something like "A1 Great North Road Wetherby" it was still there in the late '80's

I seem to recall that too

There are old bits of the A1 round here. Long since bypassed by the A1(M). Some the old coaching inns are still about.
Which is where?
