My avatar is a picture of a Pyrenean Mountain dog that is a breed used to guard sheep. They are very large indeed - bigger than the sheep they guard - and some of them have eyes that look very wolf-like, a light yellowy colour.

Although not dangerous to passers by, they are apparently very protective of their pack. They do not make good pets because of their size and also they love to be outdoors and unconfined. The Pyrenean shepherds take them out with the flock and just leave them there knowing that they will be quite happy just staying with the sheep.

Pyrenean Mountain Dogs are highly intelligent but do have a stubborn streak which can lead to problems if the handler is not consistent and loving. They must be trained from an early age with a firm hand as they are far too strong when fully grown and would, by then, be too independent.

Becs - I doubt it! I get the impression that he may well have bought it off pikeys.

Cat - definitely not a Malamute! Malamutes are fluffy and friendly, this thing was long-legged, rangey and raggedy-looking, bigger than a malamute too.

Must be a horse then, I have a friend with a Malamute and the dog will stand on his hind legs with his paws on my shoulders and look me straight in the eye and I am 6'4", his breath stinks mind you.

What a scary experience! Well done for escaping with everything intact. I wouldn't go back if I were you.

What worries me is the prospect of your numpty acquaintance taking the beast out for a walk where it gets a bit overexcited and goes into full wolf mode. Like you say, an animal like that could very easily kill another dog, a child, almost anything really. If it *is* legal (and it seems to be) it bloody well shouldn't be.

I'm a dog lover/dog owner but that's not man's best friend - that's a loaded gun in the hands of an idiot.

Did you see the episode where he "corrected" a wolf dog by kicking it, upon which it promptly leaped up and bit him

lol no, but he definitely isn't a wolf expert, the actual wolf expert 'corrected' Caeser a few times
