Trailer makes it simple. It is all a matter of relativity. In countries without the luxury of giant supermarkets and instant convenience people do all manner of daily things considered nigh on impossible on a bicycle in our society.

This has gotten so long, that I may have posted this before. But I spent 47 years of my working life in a a suit and tie. Now especially in the summer, my attire is rugby shorts and a T-shirt. And that is exactly what I wear riding my trike. All I have to do to ride is put on my cycling shoes, and Im off. Im 87 and think old guys like me look like a joke in spandex!!!!!!

Touring bike will do it and you bungee the 24 pack across top of panniers
Your remarks about a six mile ride being perfect for utility riding piqued my interest so I decided I would experiment on my next weekly visit to town. The supermarket aside I had three town centre shops to visit, one out of town shop and Tesco. I planned what I feel is the most efficient route; making the ride home with the full load as flat as possible.

My route was 15 miles in total with the last 8 miles being fully loaded carrying 29.25kg of shopping. I don't know the weight tourers can carry but I'd hazard a guess 29kg is top end, probably very tough to pull and potentially unstable. You won't find me doing a weekly utility shop and my life doesn't require me popping out anywhere for a few bits!!!!

The shop.

THey don't generally suggest a "cargo" weight, they just give a total max weight of rider/bike/gubbins combined - often 125Kg, but I believe that varies quite a bit.

I wouldn't fancy doing that lot on a bike nowadays.

I did once, many years ago, when I rode a bike with panniers, and our car was out of action for a week. I also carried a large rucksack that time, and had a largeish bag strapped on top of the pannier rack. But it was never something I would do as routine.

Just bought this to add to my Lycra collections. I saw someone riding in it and thought I’ve not seen a red Rapha top and Mrs W liked it as well. So a bit of searching on tinterweb to find one and 20 quid off the normal price.
