I really dislike the word "cheery". To me it suggests a kind of senseless, inane forced jollity. So I'm never that.
i think cheery is a word one should use toward other people rather than themselves... if I was to claim I was a cheery type, I'd probably sound a bit up myself, but to describe someone else as cheery would be complimentary. Unless I'm being sarcastic, which is quite often.

mm - so you've just dissed any innocent soul who says yes ? - you should have defined your terms as my old government teachers used to tell me.
Personally I think it's pretty hard not to feel pretty good when cycling - in that way I think it is actually - consistently - better than sex.
Have made some of my best decisions/had some of my best insights on a bike - as my mind floats free.
I believe there is a certain quote from Einstein on the matter, though I can't claim that my mind works at that level.

(yep - I too don't like forced jollity - often seems to be papering over severe personality cracks - but I don't have that on a bike. And thought you were talking about something else. I have even been known to wave at folks approaching on a bike. Of course northerners are more friendly/cheery on bikes - especially when crossing the Humber Bridge)

come come (oo missis) you must have had some bad detached sex at times?
Ever had a bad bike ride?

Not that I remember.

I've had some rubbish (ish) bike rides. Usually the ones ending up in hospital

Not really. The word is crap, but the feeling isn't. You can be cheery without liking the word cheery.
I wouldn't be unhappy to never see that word again. Cheerful sounds much more natural and correct to me. They are both in the dictionary and have the same meaning.

I'm always cheery when cycling, subject to the following conditions:

It's not raining.
It's not windy.
It's not cold.
There is no vehicular traffic.
There are no dog walkers.
There are no other feckin cyclists!!
The road (or path) surface is good.
I don't get hungry, and if I do there is a reasonably priced, good quality source of food on my route at the appropriate time.
The bike does not suffer from any mechanicals, including punctures.
Most importantly - no feckin busybody asks me where my helmet is!!!
So does this cheeriness only occur when there are no witnesses?
