My terms are pretty well defined. Cheery? Yes or no*. Couldn't be clearer.you should have defined your terms as my old government teachers used to tell me.
That's not arguing. You're just disagreeing with me.No we can't. I can't believe you said that.
I'm good with "cheerful". It's not "cheery"I would say cheerful rather than cheery as that does sound a bit insaneWhen ive ever been riding a cycle or motorcycle i feel happy about it and if ive just left the dentist and riding up the road then im goddamn ecstatic!

Im not arguing just clarifying! Being cheerful is a spontaneous, natural feeling where being 'cheery' has a falseness to it.Jeez, we really can argue about anything here, can't we?

A professor of philosophy I happened to meet told me to forget the search for happiness, and gently seek contentment instead.Quietly content. I can go with that.![]()
well currently close on 80 per cent have said yes to a term you've since dissed. My terms are pretty well defined. Cheery? Yes or no*. Couldn't be clearer.
I'm not interested in the nuances of how you feel, just whether the words "cheery" or "cheerily" can be applied to you or your actions.
You say you feel "pretty good". I'll take that as a no. Pretty good is not "cheery"
* Reminds me of sitting in the Wong Kei once, quite late and the kitchen was shutting down so they only had a limited menu. Someone at the next table had asked for another dish, prompting the waiter to yell "NO! SOUP NOODLE! ONLY SOUP NOODLE! SOUP NOODLE: YES ... OR ... NO" Clearly the menu was down to just one item by then.
Just means I'm in a minority. I'm used to it. I will bear itwell currently close on 80 per cent have said yes to a term you've since dissed.
What could have been going on there?
'An old man' or 'another old man' ?Once, out in the country lanes, I passed an old man and called out "Good Morning".
He replied "I woke up - it's a good morning"
Of course northerners are more friendly/cheery on bikes - especially when crossing the Humber Bridge)
I am old, but he was really old!'An old man' or 'another old man' ?![]()
As an aside, I really like personal vocabularies. We all have them and I like it when we explore them.I really dislike the word "cheery". To me it suggests a kind of senseless, inane forced jollity. So I'm never that.
Personally I think it's pretty hard not to feel pretty good when cycling - in that way I think it is actually - consistently - better than sex.
Only cheery when crossing northbound, surely? The other direction taking them closer to London....![]()
