I never really used to think of mine as a job. I would always look forward to going in and hopefully being able to be of some assistance to someone somewhere.
Unfortunately it has changed and along with many of my colleagues it is now just a job. I would always think how much I would miss it when i retire, now I'm not bothered.

I should add, that the helping people aspect of the job is still the best bit. It's all the other stuff!
I'm in a very similar position..........Once upon a long ago I really loved my job, never thought it would change, or could change so much. The truth is that although my job title remained the same, its a completley different role that i'm being asked to do. But hey, at my time of life, I have no choice but to say "yesum boss" and "no sah" like they did 100 years ago.....is this really progress ? I think not

I work in the caring profession and the Care Quality Commission is making life very difficult by requiring virtually unattainable levels of bureaucracy and 'evidencing', much of which is simply not relevant or specific enough and is therefore pointless and time-consuming.
The leads to experienced and very capable practitioners spending more and more time filling in forms, ticking boxes and protecting backs, rather than improving real people's real lives.
Disenchantment low-morale follows close-by.
It's a very different job to what it was even two years ago.

I quite enjoy my job although it's generally very busy and occasionally stressful. I do resent the financial restraints that are in place which means that I have to buy my own stationery, we have four printers between about 30 people and the department just seems to get busier and busier. I also resent the fact that my contract is with the NHS but I spend a lot of time dealing with private patients who can be a right pain in the arse. I might get paid over and above my wage for it but an extra £150 a month is nothing when my boss charges them £300 an hour and it's me that puts up with all their nonsense.

Still, it's a job, it pays the bills, I don't hate it (yet) and I work with a fantastic group of people.

Think we must be doing similar jobs, think I'm all but burnt out in the care profession but don't know what the next move is

I used to love my job, then I really really got to hate it....then realised that it was about me attaching negative or positive meaning to what I do. Now I love it again.
