It's a sad indictment of the times, but it's neither wrong nor right. What she is doing is legal.

However I would put a huge tax on individual bets as well as online gambling companys' profits to cover the damage they do to society - although I am sure they would continue to get around that by registering in tax havens, as I believe many already do in Gibraltar.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I know German Casinos are legally required to pay out half of the income as prize money. What is the rule in the UK?
I don't know that there's a rule, but I'd be gobsmacked if the payout was so low at casinos and bookies. Even the National Lottery, which is notoriously an extremely low payer, returns 53% in prizes.

.

But morally it is very hard to justify.
Over the course of a working life the average person may earn about £1 million.
She has earned the average life time earnings of over 250 people in one year. Off the back of quiet a lot of suffering and financial hardship for her customers.

Treat it like oil
Govt take 70% and then tax what's left.
Leave them with about 15p in the £.

One for the Labour Party to get their teeth into.
Tories won't do it sadly.

I thought gambling was regulated. Isn't the National Lottery a form of gambling, and government sanctioned too? You have to be in it to win it, they proclaim.

Edit: good point @meta lon (your answer to my post).

She started the idea but not the business, after uni she went to work for her fathers betting business.

Apparently she sold that and used the money to start BET365

Tv advertisements for gambling.

Quite possibly the most vile thing on the tv and internet
Peddlers of misery and then flaunt their wealth.

As for the " its a business ". Ffs Pablo Escobar springs to mind

Totally agree... effectively payrolled by weak capitalists in government who get a dirty kickback in tax. Self-serving lowlife, and the gambling companies are pretty bad as well

I welcome the fact that this made the headlines, it might make some people think before they put a bet on.
Agree.
I have very occassionally been tempted to put a bet on a football result. Several things have stopped me.
1. I have no idea how to do it (and dont
wish to learn).
2. The fear of winning then getting
hooked
3. Not sure if others will understand
this but..... the thought that, if I
win, someone who cant afford it
will be losing.
