Nice to see a friendly topic for a change, Religion can sometime bring the worse out in people
Did someone mention the Spanish Inquisition?

Atheist here; Whilst I've no problem with anyone believing in/worshipping whatever god/gods they like, I do find most of the organised religious factions pretty irritating and their various rituals and dogma absurd.

Do any of your local churches have bicycle parking? None of mine do. I know when I'm not welcome!

This one shows promise though:

Though I think the Stations of the Cyclocross would have worked just as well.

so you're spiritualist rather than religious?
I am a Spiritualist, but I do not think you need to believe in a separate God to be a Spiritualist. I do believe that there is something within me that will survive my death. That may be a part of a universal spirit or an individual soul, I don’t know. Unfortunately the majority of organised religions are controlling mechanisms brought about by those who seek to control (IMO).

I agree that Jesus existed, there is plenty of evidence to support this. Who he was is something I suspect we may not agree on

Give it a thousand years or so and they'll probably be lots of people who firmly believe princess Diana was the daughter of god and amongst many miracles, cured children with AIDS and de-fused land mines when she stepped on them. It will all be recorded on a hologram device (known as the Nu Testament) some time in the 23rd century.
It won't mean she never existed.

I'm not sure quite what 'al' you had in mind, but as for Nero and Caligula, I'm not sure what kind of evidence you have in mind. Video footage?

I have no idea how people without God in their life cope

Dead easy really - I just recognise the voice in my head as my conciousness and crack on. I don't need a mental crutch to get me through life.

What I find so strange about worshipers of one particular God is that they are 100% certain that their God is the one and only true God.

Does it not strike you as odd that their are umpteen different faiths with umpteen different Gods and umpteen different creation tales and all the respective believers think they are 100% right? I guess you think all the other faiths are wrong as there can only be one God in your view. They would have the same view about your faith. Message in there somewhere.
