Frontline is seriously good stuff. I do prefer the spray though, as it works out much cheaper than the 'spot-on'

I get my frontline from Germany, much cheaper than over here...vet said he couldn't match that price if he tried...
 
German forests etc are notorious for ticks. I spend a lot of time over there and my local friends always tell you to check yourself if you've been in grassland or woods etc. I haven't collected any while over there, yet...

Long trousers tucked into your socks (I know it looks sad but it makes it more difficult for the little so and sos to crawl up your leg) and a good insect repellent seem to work fairly well.
