I think the emphasis is moving away slightly from the point Mickle was attemting to let off steam about, though I could be wrong!
Mickle  is a big boy and does I'm sure, know right from wrong and what his priorities are regarding safety.

I agree with you - your well-being outways a door mirrors 100 fold. I also understand your fustration at the police being unable to 'get this'.
But don't touch others property :stop:and definitely not without a shoulder check first

Maybe Mickle would've been happy to take a little rollocking, if they had dished out a good tongue lashing to the driver, for her proven ability for endangering cyclists. Who, after all, was just riding along in a straight line on a straight piece of road enjoying his surroundings. Just thinking aloud really, ok?

Congratulations:
c) you've managed to lose any sympathy people may have with you

Speak for yourself

I very recently raised my hand against a car, made contact with the rear window, and in a few yards realised there was a child in the car - and that my hand had obviously frightened him/her. Despite some misgivings, I sent the video to the local police.

The driver has since had a letter regarding her extraordinarily close pass.

The police officer's e-mail to me, by contrast, was carefully phrased to indicate "mild reproof", easy to miss - except perhaps I thought it justified and looked for it.

My sympathies lie with mickle.

If it makes you feel any better Mickle. On my Friday cycle with a couple of mates we had a really close fast pass. What the idiot didn't realise it was Operation Ironworks and the Trossach's was hoaching with cops and we shortly passed him in the back of a cop car ^_^

The right result for a change!!!!!!!

Have you lot seen the state of mickle's car ? If someone flipped his wing mirror he'd thank them. Anyway the plods knew it was him all along they're just trying to tidy up the streets ^_^

Calling plod "sherlock" normally provokes a response, i dont advise it, but its always worked for me.....

Even better if the preceeding words are "no shlt"

why do we have to sympathise with the car, it hasn't got feelings. at the end of the day, we could replace a car but not a damaged body.

Damn and I watched all those episodes of the six million dollar mickle.

I've had two incidents recently where the driver didn't know they had done something wrong. One was Mr BMW squeezing through a pinch point the same time as me.When I caught up with him he was surprised.Guess he was comfy in his tin box and felt in no danger, unlike me.The second was last night with mr AA man at Stratford.Came round the corner at 50mph at least, tailgating a coach and inches from me.When I confronted him about it he thought I was complaining about him using the bus lane...(of which I was aware was perfectly legal, due to road works (and fifty other cars using it))I must admit I was stunned at his reply as he didn't realise his driving was dangerous,as for a second the scene resembled something out of Mad Max.

For those not aware Spen666 is a lawyer, a defence lawyer, who I suspect had a free afternoon and fancied some trolling.

How about if the thwack to the wing mirror was done in self defence in response to the dangerous driving as it was be performed toward the cyclist so the cyclist whacked the car to act as a warning to the driver that their vehicle was about to crush them? What do you think about this Lord on high troll Spen? Does potential damage to property take precedence over causing injury to a person?

However bear in mind this cyclist lost his life for whacking a car's wing mirror, run down and killed by the driver. Sobering.

But the policing in the OP's description was shockingly bad. There are few good police officers, a couple post on here, but too many are ignorant arrogant lazy oafs and these are the good ones!

He's not Mr Loophole in real life is he? ;)

No, Spen666 used to be an odious little twunt on yacf, until the mods kicked him off.

Back to the original topic. I was in a similarish incident where a bus badly cut me up (just after the Rotherhithe roundabout) and just when I was going up to the bus to remonstrate another cyclist went past me and banged his wing mirror. I hope the bus driver shat himself quite frankly.

You have my sympathies Mickle and it begs the question (as raised by Crankarm et al) that what is the policeman's reality is when he is witnessing this incident? We know that this is Mickle's own account but it is all too often that the police considers the POV of the motorist. Benborp's recent incident and the actions that follow only demonstrate. It is to the detriment of cyclists and pedestrians.

Just a thought & I'm not condoning criminal damage here but...

Cyclists generally don't go out of their way to confront drivers because the driver has the upper hand being in the vehicle. If all cyclists retaliated in the same way Mickle did, maybe drivers would think twice about close passes etc.

I mean, it's been said over & over again on here that cyclists should leave drivers alone & not try & 'educate' them. Whether this is correct, is another matter.
What if cyclists always retaliated? Would motorists think, 'better give them the correct space when passing or they'll twat my pride & joy'!
