Arriving at work with wet bike

What does everyone do when they arrive at work with a soaking wet bike? My bike is kept in the basement car park but I dont like it sitting there for 8 hours whilst its all wet.

Give it a bounce up and down to shake off most of the water.
It will be fine. Just make sure you give the bike a good clean and lube at the weekend.

I made sure I bought a waterproof bike just for this situation. Is you bike waterproof?

I was just thinking about the chain and stuff.

Leave it outside -Mine hasn't fallen apart yet after a year of having to be left outside.

Clean and oil on the weekend and it's fine

There are always discarded rags that have been used by engineers where I work so I grab a rag and run the chain through it a few times then return it to the bin from whence it came.

Worst case is that you need to buy a new chain every so many months. You can get them for under a tenner anyway so not a worry.

Its a legal requirement for all employers to provide suitable bicycle drying facilities at your place of work.
We have 4 wind machines for this purpose. Get onto your HR team if you dont have these facilities....

On a serious note; dont worry too much about it. Quick dry with a rag or Ian's bouncing method as above should sort it.

As already suggested, give it a bounce to get the worst off and just leave it. Provided you perform routine lubrication and maintenance it'll come to no harm.

If you're really worried about it, why not keep an old towel or rag where you leave the bike so you can give it a quick wipe down?

After 40 years of leaving bikes wet whenever it rained, none of them have melted on me yet. To be honest, the only thing I've noticed that had to be caused by leaving the various bikes out in numerous rainstorms was a bit of rust on some of the nuts and bolts. Bikes don't care about rain. Sure, if you leave them out all year, they'll look the worse for wear, but if they have a sheltered place to sleep, they'll be fine.

I'm very lucky in that I have an airconditioned server room all to myself so my bikes live there during the day, dries them off nicely. I have more of an issue when I arrive home wet
