Art Deco yes or no?

The hoover building is on the A40 not the great west rd.... it is a lovely building.

Sorry, that's right its on Western Ave. I confused it with the Gillette building on the Great West Rd, another fine Deco example.

A little bit. Mostly it was because of the emergence of Mies van der Rohe and le Corbusier with the "International Style". Bear in mind that Art Deco carried on with vigour in some parts of the world, notably Brazil, but also Africa , Asia, The Phillipines, and so on well into the '50s.

That's when it all got a bit drab for me. Far too utilitarian and boring for my personal tastes.

Fell into disrepair and was then renovated by Urban Splash who did a lot of the regeneration development in Manchester

I do rather like the Art Deco style but wouldn't have any of it in my house as it would look out of place

Truely gorgeous, & one of my favourite buildings

There's also Woolworths, Littlewoods (or whomever has them now) & the old Cinema, in Morecambe

I don't follow. Did you see what I was responding to? The "little bit" refers to the influence of the war in ending Art Deco. The war was a little bit of the reason Deco was superseded. The bigger reasons were the reasons I then went on to give.

Damn, i wish my old phone would let me post pictures on here. I've taken a few today of some gravestones,which could be described as Art Deco. One was very similar to this one.

There used to be a couple of Art Deco style houses on Felixstowe cliff top which have been knocked down and replaced with modern buildings. Art Deco....lots of fairly naff stuff because it had a short shelf life betwixt edwardian decoration and bauhaus modernism..the French had it sorted, fleetingly
