Yup, exactly my thoughts. Who are the ASA to make such pronouncements, anyway? It looks like mere prejudice and on the basis of a mere 5 complaints.

What copy of the Highway Code are the ASA looking at? As far as I'm aware, none of the versions published in my lifetime specify a distance that the cyclist should be from the kerb.

Geez, not the old "safety attire" thing again :rolleyes:. That's just draws attention away from the real problem (both in the UK and Australia, among other places), which is motorists and/or cyclists not bothering to properly share the road with each other. Special "safety attire" would be completely unnecessary if enough people just paid more attention to the traffic around them.

In fact the same Highway Code does specify that you should allow the same space as passing a car (ambiguous I know but that looked a good car sized distance to me)
