Well, here's an idea: on the wave of all things bike now being "in", casually ask if she would come along to a bike shop to help you make up your mind on a new bike/tyres/whatever.
You will have to exchange numbers, so that's a start. After you go for coffee. Depending on how it all developed, a few days later you text her for something trivial, another few days later you propose something else, or maybe by that time she will want to take you to a garden centre
Whatever you do, do not propose a bike ride: unless she is a really good cyclist, and she knows it, she will decline for fear of not being able to keep up.
Good luck!

yeh, don't do this, this backfired for me as I wasn't being honest about why I wanted to meet up.

"It's great when you're here, wondered if you'd like to head to the pub after?" or
"I'm glad you're here tonight, fancy coming to the pub later?" is what you're after, then it can go from there

In a cultural misunderstanding, I once asked a Spanish woman out, who I fancied, and to my surprise she readily agreed. I arrived (at the pub) a wee bit early, and then a bit later she turned up... with her boyfriend!! Doh!!

Funny you should say that Pat, I'm looking to change my old bike for something more up to date and need some help choosing a replacement...

Ohhhhhh :girl: we'll have to take a trip to the Edinburgh for the bike shop, better than that Decathlon at the Fort we passed on PfS, actually let's cycle it there and back, after we pop into B&Q, pick up some compost on a trailer .... :training:  ;)

James Hunt never used to mess about. He'd just wander up to a lady and ask up front if they fancied a bunk up. He reckoned 1 in 3 said yes.

I was in a band with a chap who used 'Do you take it up the shitter' as an opening line, I don't think it ever worked though, in fact I seem to remember it used to result in violence being visited upon his visage quite often.

And more single younger men and sad older women  Hmm, I think I see a solution!
Nooooo, jefmcg, this works only if based purely or mostly on sex, imo.
You don't want to date somebody a good few years behind you in experience, unless you like mothering. I don't mean you, of course, just in general.
I'll rather stay a (happy) spinster cat lady forever, than support a younger guy through years of projects and self doubts.
They will dump you anyway, once they are ready for children

That'll just leave her asking "Why's he asking me all these questions suddenly? If he wants to go out with me why doesn't he just ask?"
She knows what is meant. But doing it the "this is not a date" way, they both have a chance to back out without an awkward explanation.

Misunderstandings happen often when British people think they can speak a foreign language

Oh, I see your plan: get me knackered then have me at your mercy, I've met your type before...

Shall we say 2 o'clock on Saturday?
