A A friend phoned Halfords to book her bike in to adjust the brakes and tighten the chain took it in this morning and said they have to do a assessment then email her What is the matter with people one time they would have jumped at the work get some Sergeant major types in .

They always do this.

I suspect mainly to get extra work from people who don't know any better. The assessment will almost always end up with a list of other things than what you brought it in for that they can fix for you.

Of course, you can always say "no thanks" to them doing any of that, but in many cases, people taking their bike to Halfords won't have the knowledge or ability to do those things themselves, or even to judge whether they are really necessary.

BTW, was there any reason for making your post so hard to read, or was it just being annoying for the sake of it?

A neighbours lad took his bike into halford for an assessment and their quote to repair was a lot of money more than the bike cost. I repaired it for much less but I had to attack the spares bin as a lot of the work they advised needed doing.

Sorry not very good with tec stuff yes you are right wanted over 200Pounds not worth it doing them selves out of work.
