At what point can I put my own name on the bike?

A bit of a hypothetical question for you:

Following today's bit of fettling I now realise that the remaining original parts on my knockabout bike are the frame & forks, the handlebar & grips, the braking system (apart from blocks), and the front wheel.

Given that Hawk Cycles don't build their own bikes but buy them in from a factory in Thailand and put their name on, do you reckon I could now legitimately rebrand it a "Rickshaw Phil"?^_^

The beastie.

What would you do?

reckon you need a few more newer parts first... brakes, bars, stem (?) front wheel minimum...
have a similar situation with my OH's specialised rockhopper - replaced the brakes, cables & sheaths today, working on a new front wheel for him. bars & stem have already been replaced and it also has a pannier rack...

Stem has already been replaced - it broke.:shy: I shall need to get another new rear wheel some time this year as the winter was extremely unkind to it (I only got it in August ) and might get a new front wheel at the same time. Bars..... dunno, doubt I'll want to change those - they do the job.. The brakes are getting a bit of surface rust though. That sounds like a good enough excuse to replace.:giggle:

My bike is built on a frame and forks I bought in 1982. Columbia 1.jpg Everything else I fitted and have upgraded over the years since. Under the above rules I should be able to claim manufacturer status but won't :becool:.
Since this photo it has new brakes (Tektro) and bar tape.

Who said anything about rules?:giggle: If it was a quality frame I wouldn't even consider it, but as it's not, the idea amused me. After all, what am I doing that Hawk didn't?

Put your name on your bike regardless. Makes it easier to identify it should it get stolen/recovered.

I'm happy to put my name to my bikes, I've probably done more work on my bikes then some of the manufacturers have.
I would certainly put my name to a bike if I built/converted the frame.
