Attitudes on forums

There are always a few Trolls around. The ignore facility allows me to do just that and is one of the reasons I like Cycle Chat so much. It gives me a smug feeling to know they are wasting so much vitriol to no avail.

Some forums are crap - some are good

Some forum staff shouldn't be staff - Some excel at it

Some forum members should be banned upon registration - Some post 11000 posts in a few years

But they all have at least 2 things in common..

• Nobody uses the damn search function
• All of them have an argument that will never be settled. Regardless of the amount of evidence/common sense provided.

I used to run a rugby web site which, at the start, brought supporters of all English Premiership clubs together and through it I met many top people.

Over the years the posts got more condescending and pernickerty and I gave up. Some people saw it as an opportunity to "prove" that they were superior to other mortals in one way or another.

I like it here, I'm not ridiculed for my lack of knowledge (e.g. the thread on shoes started the other week which came up with an answer which was the shoes I already own) and people are helpful and friendly.

Long may it continue.

I used to post on this site a lot, as I was a cycle commuter. Apart from the odd "I have an expensive bike therefore you are slow and know nothing...

I rarely notice comments like this, so I don't know if they really exist or are a figment of your imagination.

Click the down arrow next to your user name top right. Select preferences and then click on people I ignore in left side area. As you can see I'm not ignoring you!
