We employ post grads where I work and to be honest some of them need to go on a gap year permanently. I would like to think I didn't show such little application, initiative and comprehension when I was their age! I'm sure it's not intellectual barriers, they just don't seem to be all 'there'?

I wouldn't employ anyone who used the phrase "journey of self discovery", to be honest. Or "the path less travelled"^_^. Fortunately, as a spectacularly unambitious lorry driver who couldn't care less about his place in the world, I'll never be in a position to employ anyone.

One of my former work colleagues is currently off on a gap year and I am following her adventures on facebook - I kept asking when the "token help the orphans experience" was planned; after much harranguing from others over several months my "moment" came just before Christmas when all the nice middle class white people went to an orphanage dressed in animal-themed onesies and played with the poor brown orphans, gave them presents, and felt better about themselves before they went off on another jolly to post on Facebook for their friends

I have been on that journey since about the age of five, it's called life and getting on with it. To be honest, it has been a life changing experience and I've learnt a lot about myself

I have worked constantly for the last 30 years, I think I deserve a gap year.

When I get a chance to catch his ear, I am going to punt my RTW trip to my MD.

If there's one thing worse then it's those that want you to pay them to do it.

"oh, I'm a massive horse riding fan so I'm joining a horse riding trek around Mongolia to raise money, please pay sponsor me for this holiday fund-raising event"

I see your point, but doesn't that sound like the sponsored London to Paris (or wherever) bike ride?

Ever one is so true.
We have to suffer the bosses "knows it all but never done it" son, on a yearly basis during holidays
