AVerage cadence query (probably a case of how long is a piece of string)

Froth, trying to learn a different style of pedalling whilst riding on the road up lots of inclines is probably the most awkward way to go about it.

If you are determined to try and increase cadence, ride more in zone 1/2 in the quest to improve your cardiovascular engine. My honest opinion is get a decent indoor setup.

Use a training program (trainer road, Wahoo training) through the winter, re-learn pedalling technique, so your action is smooth and circular, this will eliminate 'bouncing'. Pedalling smoothly, but quickly shouldn't cause knee issues (if knees are in good condition).

Ride the summer out normally and use cold months to train :okay:

all the best

Sadly they are not - double arthroscopy about 20 years ago but I still use them ^_^
The canal towpath is flat by very far from smooth.
I have an old school friction trainer but I do have a cadence sensor set up on it.
