I do 25 Km each way and have no traffic lights. There are times when traffic is heavy and caution is required but there is also a stop for the ferry each way and that can be time consuming, although it doesn't affect my average speed as I don't count that time when checking the average!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's all do a little experiment.

You know how fast you can cruise. You know the distance of your commute. You've counted the traffic lights.

Firstly, calc the time it would take if you didn't have to stop.

Count all the other junctions and the all the uphill contours ( and Zebra crossings ).

Add on 1% for each TL, J, ZC or uphill contour.

How does this compare with reality?

5 mins out or so

15 miles, crusing at 22mph = 40mins.

40 x 1.44 = 57.6mins

Normal time 53mins.

Going by my crusing speed of 20mph, and my distance of 13.5miles, it should take me around 40 mins to get to my destination if i have a clear route.
i pass through a total of 121 tl, zc or roundabouts. so thats 121% of the time i should add on. That doesn't even take into account hills* that i have to climb.

So thats 88 mins. where as i do it on average at about 52 mins.

*more like slopes.
