I disagree with you when you say that was shi*e driving.

It was reckless and dangerous, and likely to cause a fatal accident. Something was coming the other way! He is an idiot, all to save what, ten seconds.

Sadly the police don't think the same. I sent them the video and this was the response from the officer dealing with it:

'Unfortunately the footage was insufficient to prove an offence at that location. I have not only viewed it myself but I have had supervision look at it and we understand your concerns and frustrations but in this incident we will not be able to prosecute the driver as the footage does not show any offences such as crossing a double white line, ignoring a give way, involved in a road etc.'

Would the response have been different perhaps if he had ploughed head on into an oncoming car?

Terrible bit of driving! On what appears to be a country road going through a village!

You and the drivers of the vehicles that appeared moments later are very lucky!

He's going to kill someone one day, but unfortunately, Darwinian principles do not work with drivers like this. They will kill somebody and just walk away unscathed!!!

This was posted while I was writing my last piece.

I can see plods point about no offence being committed!! It's just a piece of crass stupidity on the van drivers part.
Now if an accident had occurred, that would be a different matter.
Still warrants plod investigating who was driving the van at the time and having a word in their shell like! Speaking to the company whose van this moron was driving!

I can understand that if no offence is committed, then they are powerless but does it not just come under dangerous driving? Is that not an offense in itself?

Not the greatest bit of driving but it is the sort of thing you see on a daily basis im afraid.

I have to agree with that tbh. But this is the only time I've reported another driver for anything -just thought why not?-and didn't expect the driver to be facing the guillotine.
As cyclists I am sure most of us have a good appreciation of road hazards and we KNOW this sort of thing is dangerous. Sadly, I think some people who have only ever driven a car and not a bicycle/motorcycle just don't have the same safety awareness on our roads. Yet they are rarely punished.

Sadly we all witness moronic driving like this all too frequently, i do wonder if this cretin was using a mobile phone at the time, as his/her concentration seems non existent/ elsewhere. It may also substantiate my own opinion that there seems to be an increasing number of unqualified or disqualified drivers loose on our roads who seem to carry on driving with apparent impunity. the only small deterent being a small "top up" ban

The driver of the van, might, quite possibly, have been late for a delivery for his company! Maybe this is the reason for the impatience displayed. It does not however, excuse that appalling standard of driving shown on the video, with the potential for loss of life!
As you gave not gotten anywhere with plod, have you thought of contacting the Managing Director of the company whose can was being driven so irresponsibly? Find their name and personal business e-mail address, send them a copy of the video, with the time and date and ask for their comments. Send a copy to local newspapers, ask for their comments and inform the MD that this is what you are doing.
If you have been so (rightly, IMHO) upset, surely this needs to be followed up. If you can't get plod to act, maybe this particular MD will see the negative publicity that could be generated. They my well want to have a word with the driver themselves.
