Badly Drawn Bikes

I often wondered why councils don't use stencils when painting those! The rough hand-painted ones always look awful, and must take twice as long to paint as spraying through a stencil...

If you're going to paint something at least know what it's supposed to look like beforehand

On the upside, the bicycle is so iconic, even the really bad ones are instantly recognisable.

Mostly worn out now... but the bicycle paintings on the Lancaster to Morecambe path definitely showed improvement as you went along.

From time to time I have had to employ artists and graphic designers. One of the best instant tests to sort the wheat from the chaff is simply to hand them a paper and pencil and ask them to sketch you a bicycle from memory in not more than five minutes. Perhaps one in ten can draw something that would actually function. Presumably the others end up at the Department for Transport.

My 16yo suggested he could do that and stick aero bars facing backwards on his track bike. That was until I got him to put them on and try ...

Toe overlap on a mini bike in an Ipswich cycle lane.

It's since been repainted to look slightly more normal, but the lane is only around 2 feet wide!
