Cycling from St Malo to Barcelona in August and looking into the possibilty of getting luggage transferred to our destination at each stage so we can cycle without it. Not having much luck finding a company that offers this as a stand alone service without their package holiday deals. Does anyone know if such a service exists? Many thanks.

... reality check! - not a chance in my view - where's the market? - with almost infinite route possibilities and overnight stops.

The only, very expensive, option would probably be to hire a taxi at each stop (the local private ambulance firms usually double as taxis!)

If it was me doing this I'd pare my luggage down to the absolute minimum to carry on the bike ... perhaps (as I did with the E2E) having a kit changeover point at about half-way.

Carry your own bags - add a few days to your trip and cut down daily mileage/get minimalist with your packing/get fitter.
Otherwise you are looking at costly taxi transfers or same-day courier services.

I've been mulling it over and decided that some of the posters were a little hasty in dismissing your idea.
I'm willing to put myself forward for this.
I'll need to get the car serviced, insured and will need European breakdown cover. Charged at cost.
Ferry fares - I suggest you book my car asap as prices may go up.
It's a petrol engine but maybe you can fill it up when we meet in the evenings.
Hotel - I'd prefer 3 star but 2 star if that's all that's available
Food - breakfast probably at the hotel, baguette and cheese for lunch and 2 course meal at dinner - wine inc. You can settle up when you pay for your stopover.
I can probably get back from Barca in 2 days so only 1 night stop needed.
As it will be a bit of a working holiday for me I think maybe £75 a day would be sufficient to cover my loss of income.
Others can suggest any other costs I may have forgotten.

rather than use a taxi for a 50 mile drive (that's 100 mile round trip) each day it might be cheaper to throw away your smelly clothes and buy new ones each day

Indeed it would. Taxi hire in France is hugely expensive. Postage or couriering down the line would also not be reliable (as indeed it wouldn't in the UK).

I'm not aware of any company that could offer such a tailor-made service.... though I'm sure their are many individuals that would offer to do it on a similar basis to that which Rich proposes! ;)

.... taking the idea a shade further ... planning overnight stops in the vicinity of a Decathlon store would enable purchase, at reasonable cost, of new kit each day :becool:

I think it's back to the "man up and carry your own luggage" scenario.

Worth checking walking forums, maybe - I know there are baggage drop companies exactly like this for the West Highland Way, for example. That said, I'm with some of the others here, advocating travelling light, with a bit of buying and rinsing on the way, especially given you say in the other thread that you're not camping. If you resist the temptation to take a dinner suit, you can travel with just a saddle bag, or a rack bag, or two wee panniers even. The bit of your luggage not needed by day but needed by night might easily be under 1kg.

The small ortleib panniers are big enough to carry enough clothes to wear in the evenings. You will need a set of waterproofs plus some warm stuff for the cold mornings or evenings. One set of tools between you will cope with mechanicals. A wallet each. Er, that is all. If you wanted to you could take some small container of washing powder and hand rinse some stuff by hand and dry it on a radiator, or ask a hotel to do it. I just had two weeks in january in spain and it was 3 degrees some mornings but an extra fleece or t shirt was enough. Those ortleibs were fine, and as a back up i had a marks and sparks bag for life strapped on the rear rack, into which we put bread and cheese and fruit for lunch. A luxury you might want is a small gas stove and pot so you can brew up tea in your hotel room, as Johnny Foreigner simply does not understand Tea, the Making and Brewing Of.
