I mean this in the nicest way, but my bass playing has never been compromised by either ability or public demand, but I do adore playing my bass to whomever will listen (the number is few).

I know there are other bassists here, so why not have our own little thread, we're the downtrodden of all bands so let's unite and celebrate our rumblings!

I currently play a Mexi Fender Precision through a bunch of custom and otherwise odd pedals and an Orange Bass Terror amp coupled to a Mark Bass cab (with fancy ceramic drivers). My main love is my MusicMan Stingray but I play in a silly tuning and I nearly killed a Stingray by tuning it C, F, C, G for a while so use the Mexi instead.

Here's me playing at Latitude Festival, most likely trying to remember which string is the one I should be troubling (I'm sitting down because I thought it was cool, I was wrong):

There's a MusicMan volume pedal just out of shot, I don't know how I ever did without it!
But what's in the cake tin? And is it hygienic to leave it so close to a rehearsal room carpet?

I've usually been on the more acoustic side of things so with all those leads and gadgets in front of me I'd probably just trip over them. Double bass was my instrument, though I do have a Fender Jazz which I lent to a pub friend whose son was just starting out on the bass. I guess I should find out what happened to it one of these days.

I play a Jap Fender Precision Lyte (from about 1996) in starburst, at Church. It's active and in lovely condition. The chap I bought it from had it from new and it looks like it had very little use at all. I like the slim Jazz neck rather than the P-bass wider neck.

I'm currrently using my 30W Line6 amp as we are in a hall whilst the main building is renovated & altered. The amp is plenty to fill the hall. I don't have any pedals at the moment but I do use some of the effects on the Line6.

When we get back in I'll probably be using a 100W stack and the PA. The PA chaps like it when they rig up my Line6 to go through the PA though, as the sound is clean and clear..

I've only been playing bass for a couple of years but I do love it. My normal instrument was the blues harmonica, which I still play from time to time. I've got a harmonica holder but find it hard to multi-task, and it's hard to get all the range of sounds on the harmonica when you're not able to use your hands.

My elder son plays drums at home and my youngest has just started the guitar. My wife plays classical guitar so we sometimes all get together & play something for fun.

Does the Boss tuner pedal adjust the pitch of the note if you go out of tune ?

There's just bits of velcro, picks, rosin, hand gel and all kinds of other crap in that tin, it's just handy to keep it close!

I had a Jap squier for a few years; it cost £250 and I sold it for £150 and threw in a Peavy TKO75 amp. I recently found out they now go for £800 second hand!

I may be the only guitarist who believes the bass player is what rocks a band....a really good solid bass player is hard to find. As a guitarist I want a bass player to lock tight with the drums for sure but also fill out the sound behind me under solos etc (yes the solo is more important than anything lol!) ...but I also want the bass player to add to the melody/atmosphere....too often bass players forget just how crucial they are to making us lead guitarists look great:laugh:

I found that I could build basses better then I could play them.
The one in the photo has a +-15v supply from the amp powering the active electronics inside and sends a balanced line signal to the amp. The matching amp is a 60W mini W bin.

My other bass is a fretless quadraphonic. I made the quadraphonic pick up myself. It can either send a mono, stereo or quad signal to the mixing desk.

I love the sound of a bass well played, regardless of the style of music.
