When I play live the bass is what is coming through my monitors and loud out front, when we record, the bass is up front in the mix.......the way it should be!

All this bass talk takes me back to my youth, following the band that was built around the bass player, step forward Mr Mark (thunderthumbs) King of Level 42. Many, many times I have given the legendary chant of "woahhh, woahhh, woah, woah, woah" when he launched into another thumb slapping solo.

Going back to the point of the bass player being the back bone of the band, listen to any of The Jam albums and revel in the genius that was Bruce Foxton. Also Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience stands out in my opinion, the lead guitarist wasn't bad either. ;)

Jack Bruce too! Ignore Clapton for a moment and listen to the bass on this track (1.30 onwards)
