My wife had had her ebike, from new, for over 4 years old and it works hard. Puts a lot of miles in.
The battery has become a bit hormonal recently
Questions about recent changes in range trends and so on meet with little response

Any recommendations for getting it checked and serviced.

I've searched the internet for the battery rating and the bike brand (Go Outdoors)
No real clues so since I know the box will contain a number of cells wired together. So, I'm looking for someone reliable to check it and service as appropriate.

WHich motor and battery makes is it?
and how many miles?

Mine is a Bosch and has doen over 10,000 miles and has not dropped mileage much at all

but the previous ebike dropped quite abit over time
I did get it "recelled" but the bloke who did it was getting old and pretty much stopped over lockdown

Anyone else found someone who can do it and is reliable - I have a battery from our folder which needs looking at as well

It's a pre lock down bike from GoOutdoors. No idea about, mileage, charges whatever. But at 50km a week over 5 years comes up to more than 10k km.
I'm putting off opening the pack and looking at re-celling myself. But it might come to that.

Im North of 10k on my Carrera and the battery is as good as ever.

Many of the re cell'ers won't touch batteries with a BMS built in, so you might be in for a bit of an email session.

Assume a newer battery would be better. Technology has moved on over the last 5 years.

Energy density of batteries will have increased between 5-8% per year. But this assumes you can get an appropriate sized modern battery to fit to the bike. If it’s to be certified as safe, I’d imagine thst means a certified third party doing it.

If I were looking at getting a battery serviced I’d be concerned with the origin and quality of the replacement cells. There’s a lot of cheaper cells out there and they can send you down the road to what in the industry is known as a “thermal event”. If I couldn’t get a match for the cell with a known brand name on it, I wouldn’t go there. Also, you don’t want to mix old and new cells, especially if the energy density has changed, that’s just looking for trouble.

If it was my bike I’d get a new battery.

I had 2 batteries recelled a long time ago

First time went fine and the recelled battery worked fine but didn;t last as long as a new one - I suspect the cells were not the same quailty
2nd time it just failed after only 2 years - it just stopped working during the winter

Since then I have found that I can get a new battery from a different place for about the same

the place I used has stopped doing it now anyway - I think the bloke that did it was getting on and had health problems over Lockdown so they stopped doing it

But if I want to get our folder working again I will just get a new battery rather than trying to get the old battery working
