That's why I never bought into the Bosch is so good. They're a nice motor, smooth.
+1 their reliability is vastly over hyped.

Go on the big ebike forums and people bleat about Suntour HESC, but the far less common Bosch generates far more "my bike is broken" threads, yet on the same forums has this image of Volvo 240 like dependability. Go figure.

I agree

I didnt actually buy the Bosch
I bought a cheaper bike with Suntour hub motor and it was great
until I wanted to recharge it when after a few charges the plug would no longer make contact
after 3 swaps of charger, Raleigh just said they would swap the bike for the next ont up the range

which has Bosch

to be fair the battery has been great and it has all worked so far - just a few problems with bolts that broke and the LBS replaced easily

It has now done nearly 12,000 miles and the range is certainly dropping - especially in winter

but it is far better than the Carrera folder whose battery has died again and I can't be bothered replacing it

Yes, many believe the Bosch BMS self destroys/locks after power is disconnected.
Looks much a myth. One repairer claim I noticed was that 50% of Bosch failures ' is related to a broken Schottky diode'.
It is frustrating for owners, myself doubting Bosch pays much more than £30 for a set of 40 cells.

Interestingly, after reading a critical post about Eve I found a data sheet for Eve 3200mah. It is rated for 1,000+ cycles in, to me, demanding circumstances. Fingers crossed.

A read an article a while ago on something or other
the person writing it said he had checked the stats and they show that Bosch are generally one of the most reliable brands of ebike motors

The stats seemed to suggest that they ran without problems for far longer than a lot fo other well know brands
BUT
when they went wrong you have to replace a whole things and things that would be easily repairable on another make just had to be replaced

As a result when they do go wrong them people are far more likely to moan and complain because ti costs more
and also the people buying them spend a bit more for them and so expect them to be bomb proof - again meaning the people are more likely to moan

He found that the rate of early failure was much lower than normal
and the longevity was much greater than normal
