Just driving through town and saw a police car had pulled over an illegal ebike rider. The rider looked to be older lady, and riding one of those sit-up fat tyre bikes. I don't know what their policy is but hopefully it will get crushed. it is a bit unfair though that only this type of rider (i.e. those willing to stop) will get their bike confiscated, whilst the hoody wearing youths who just carry on at 40mph through a pedestrian area to escape will continue to ride their illegal transport for ever
That is always the problem
They get complains about teenager riding bike - electric or not - through the pedestrianised High Street and deploy the SAS (OK private security with a high opinion of themselves)
but the only people who will stop when someone a a uniform tells them ar ethe older people who were causing no problems
I heard of one town where the local teenagers were doing laps along the High Street and round in a loop to do it again and just riding past the security people
Not exactly sure how you get round it all but it is a problem
BTW - when I was out riding the other day a small motorbike that was possiblt a Surron - or possible petrol - was turning round just up the street and stopped to look at me
I was curious why he was lookign at me until he turned round again so I could see the paint scheme on his bike - and it was a Police Bike
I reckon he was checking me out as a possible illegal ebike
which I'm not - but him checking me out is fine by me as it means they are doing something about them
