Did you see it?

If not, I cannot recommend enough that you find a way to do so.(if you can in HD...and even better with good sound!)

One of the most beautifully shot and fascinating programmes I've had the pleasure to watch in ages, all set to the silky tones of Attenborough.

I am speechless at the quality of modern camera techniques.

The "making of" section at the end was just the icing on the cake.

Bravo Auntie Beeb, Bravo

Fab even in SD on a traditional 100hz tube. Awesome.

Kids didn't realise how big a polar bear is on all 4's (not stood up) - put my hand up about shoulder level and they were ...wooooo - not so cute.

Whale tail tips 5m, wide as the lounge... then told them to remember the model in the Natural History Museum - that's the size....

The 10 mins about filming is the best..

For me, best telly BBC does, over any other provider.

Love it.

Watching the Orcas hunt that seal was impressive. We think we're clever, and have a monopoly on playing with our food...

I felt a bit sorry for the bison calf though...

(Note, the Orcas weren't hunting a bison calf, it was a different section.... They are smart, but not that smart!)

Those scenes with the killer whales were outstanding. They are obviously incredibly intelligent and inquisitive animals. That bit where the seal got dragged off its little piece of ice was a bit harrowing though.

It's up there with Human Planet.

The Orca's behaviour - never seen that on telly ever - big one up for the Beeb. Very clever animals.

Poor bison, just about keeping going, then a thundering adult knocks it over - not a nice way to go with the wolves, but the beeb pan away - so suitable for kids. I'm more excited than the kids with these programmes.

Sounds like I missed a good one, have to catch up on the I-player. I was however watching Secret Pakistan on BBC2, interesting to say the least.

It was superb ... I loved the snow flakes too ... and watched with fascination that the way the Killer Whales played with the seal until the end when they just pulled it under the water. I kept thinking the images would make good photos.

1 mile deep water falls in the glaciers... OMG

This is good stuff.

Yup, I was watching the beautifully clear and inviting melt water flowing through the gullies thinking how cool it would be to raft on it. Then the one mile drop.....

Felt sorry for the baby bison though, and the simple acceptance on the seal's face as it was dragged slowly off the ice.

The Orcas bit was interesting, as much for our reaction to it as to the actual behaviour. We like to think that nature is somehow 'fair', but the more we see of the natural world, the more we realise that plenty of animals enjoy the hunt, and will do things that we'd call cruel. They could have finished the seal off sooner, but they played with it. I remember a few years ago when they showed for the first time Orcas throwing a seal pup to each other in the sea. Makes it all the more amazing that these beasts allow us to 'train' them in aquariums and so on.

Also, it occured to me to wonder if creating a wave to sweep the seal off the ice counts as using a tool? I reckon so.

And let's not forget the macabre comedy of the lumbering sea lion chasing the flappy penguin.
