Still, the warren house inn remained open back then even having to get supplies helicoptered in. The photos in the pub show snow half way up the building...

Next door has offered to clear our driveway with his digger, I said not to bother as I am not going anywhere, nice of him to offer though.

I had two "Scott of the Antarctic" moments yesterday. There i was out walking the dog,on the town's highest peak,when we were hit by a "massive" blizzard! So bad that we had to walk up someone's drive and shelter behind their garage. I don't know if anyone was in the house,but we had to reach safety! Then on the way back i felt so cold(my fingers were throbbing in pain,(like frostbite feels, i assume)that we both again had to seek shelter. We went into a store to seek warmth,and stood under the ceiling's blast heater for about 15 minutes. A shop assistant pointed out that dogs aren't allowed in the store. "Oh he's a mountain rescue dog",i replied. That's ok then sir,she replied. I was only a few hundred yards from home. Now i know how Scott and his remaining gallant explorers felt when they died,being only 11 miles from safety!

Earlier start than intended this morning due to a heating problem. The condensate drain from the boiler got clogged by a plug of ice. Easy to fix with a bit of hot water but reaching it was the problem.

I probably looked a right sight leaning out of the bathroom window into the swirling snow, clutching an old length of guttering and a kettle.

Just been down to the bottom of the garden,to the shed.I need my wellies we are walking to the supermarket.Hell it's a very cold wind.It's the furthest i have been since Sunday.i am going to put my thermal bibs longs on under my walking trousers,jeans are not going to any good in this wind.I might be some time.If i don't make it,Accy can have all my cycle related stuff including both bikes,he deserves a bit of good luck.

I remember it well but 1963 was 55 years ago and a historic event then. No doubt people at the time were saying it was nothing like 1947. We've had the most snow since the early 90s here and for the first time since then, our village is cut off by drifting snow. There's a JCB frantically trying to keep roads open but it is a losing battle in 35mph winds.

Here's some drifts at Saxmundham today. Much the same near us in places and I wouldn't count on it going by next week either.
