Recent events having encouraged a segue away from steak and sausages towards veges and pulses, I was rootling through the cupboard and came up with three cans of chick peas.
After consulting St Delia, I soon had a pan simmering away with onions, peppers, garlic, ginger and chilli, then opened the first can, upended it to drain, and spotted the sell-by date on the base. Jul 2001. I checked the others. Jul 2001.
Well, they looked ok, they smelt ok, and I wasn't about to throw away all that veg, so I finished my spicey chick pea rissoles, and very tasty they were too.
11 years, three months. Beat that if you can.
