You might all be relieved to know that the cow in the 'ram raid' incident with a police car is recovering well from her ordeal.
The barsteward lazy copper driving the car has been removed from duty.
It all happened on Raleigh Road so you might have known all would be well in the end.

Public safety my erse, this was just a young beast probably more frightened than any member of the public, and who that no user was running around the car was just making things worse. I can't help but think of the wee cafe beside the best golf course in the world which also serves the biggest and most delicious cream cakes. I watched the lady serve up a cracking meal, followed by an array of the best cakes when she noticed a herd of cows had escaped after some idiot left a gate open as she jumped out the cafe slapping her tea towel at the heard as she rounded up the entire herd on her own as I was polishing off these cakes. Hilarious.

I've been there in exactly that scenario, with multiple full sized cows and horses. Use vehicles to block the street each end and contain it, get the vet out to tranq it. In dire straits firearms are trained to drop them humanly and have special low velocity ammo available that won't over penetrate.

That was mindless and gratuitous, with no operational justification or imperative, with the animal presenting zero immediate and identifiable threat to any person. I hope the bobby responsible is knocked off for dangerous driving and animal cruelty. Utterly sickening behaviour.

Edit - the bobby has been suspended from public facing duty.

To see the calf under the front of the pickup was not nice to see. If anyone else did that what would the action be? RSPCA cruelty investigation?

I do think it was a difficult situation foor urban cops but there is some things you really don't do except in extremis. An adult with people in danger possibly but nobody in danger and time / space to calm the beast down definitely not.

BTW where were their rural colleagues? Perhaps a rural copper might have been better at this.

Surrey is quite leafy in places. They must be used to animal escaped. No excuse.

I've worked with town and country and rural bobbies are no better at cattle wrangling than the town boys and girls.

Two hours foxtrotting about and - apparently - no attempt at a containment, which is pretty much chapter 1, page 1, for dealing with any mobile/active threat to public safety.

Cops have got form for this kind of behaviour, bloke I know was riding his motorbike up the M1 with his wife on the back when a bike overtook him going like a dingbat "Cor he was motoring" thought Graham then about 5 minutes later a Cop car rammed his back wheel knocking them off and breaking his wife's leg. Wouldn't accept that Graham wasn't the speeder they were chasing and prosecuted him despite his wife saying it wasn't them, apparently the evidence of 2 Coppers in a car trump 2 civilians on a bike in court.
Not really relevant you may think but merely an example of how some Policemen think they're in the right when they clearly aren't.

I assume that must have been some time ago given the cameras that's on our motorways now.

Assuming it was some time ago, do you think a judge would be as confident today given recent history?

Nah about 5-6 years ago, whether there was a 'cover up' is a moot point, can you imagine the furore if it could be shown that the police had rammed an innocent motorcyclist, No video/camera evidence was presented in court simply a 'speed gun' reading in excess of 180mph and the evidence of 2 policemen.

Disgusting. I really had hoped it was years back as I really like to think that stuff like that just doesn't go on anymore.

It didn't look too good you have to say! The plod shot a runaway stag in Liverpool the other year. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-58718085#:~:text=A rare white deer was,own According to reports the plods who did the deed boasted on social media that it was 'good target practice'. Like many have said already and what I thought at the time, why didn't the plod with the calf ask for someone used to dealing with cattle for help?! There's a bloke in this town who used to go down my ex local pub and constantly talk about his cattle handling work.:tired:💤 He told of delivering calves after he'd had 15 pints, rescuing cows from the canal (probably after 20 pints!) , castrating bulls 🫣, etc etc. If the plod had called someone like him he'd have had that poor calf gently but firmly lassooed and then noshing on a bag of cow nuts in 10 minutes maximum!!🧐

As an ex copper I cringe when I see a force or a collegue trying to support a collegue when there has obviously been a wrong doing.

I have rounded up dogs, horses, cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks and swans, on several occasions. I have never needed a car to do it. To say its for public safety and then remove him from duty sends mixed messages.
